is a new portal launched to assist patients, their families; and medical and
allied practitioners with comprehensive information on treatment options, side
effect algorithms and commonly asked questions.
The ticket to entering the site is a patient card with a username and password
– these cards are handed out by doctors to patients, families and supporters.
The cards also point patients and caregivers to a toll free helpline.
Forms for assisted care or involuntary certification among others, are
downloadable from this site.
The portal was developed and is now managed by the University of Stellenbosch.
It was sponsored by Pharma Dynamics.
The goals of this website are:
To lend support and offer advice to people with schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses
To lend support and offer advice to families and friends of people with schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses
To offer advice to people who are worried about their own mental health
To offer advice to family and friends of people that may be mentally ill
To provide the general public with information regarding schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses
To help reduce the stigmatization of mental illness in this country
This website was constructed by setting possible questions that people might ask. The questions
have been answered with as little medical terminology as possible.
On this website are flowcharts for specific scenarios. These flowcharts give advice on how to
handle these scenarios. The scenarios include what to do when a person is aggressive; when a
person is aggressive and known with a mental illness; when a person is suicidal and when a person
is unable to sleep.
