Active Ingredients for this medicine

Tablets: Each tablet contains cetirizine 10 mg

Syrup: Each 1 ml contains 1 mg cetirizine

How should I use this medicine

Tablets:

  • Adults and children 12 years or older: one tablet daily.
  • Children 6 – 12 years or older: one tablet daily or 5 mg (half a tablet) twice daily

Reduce dosage to half the usual recommended dose in patients with renal insufficiency.

Syrup:

  • Adults and children 12 years or older: 10 ml once daily
  • Children 6 – 12 years or older: 10 ml daily either as a single dose or as divided doses of 5 ml in the morning and 5 ml in the evening.
  • Children age 2 – 6 years: 5 ml daily either as a single dose or as divided doses of 2,5 ml in the morning and 2,5 ml in the evening.

Side Effects

Tablets: 

A small number of patients may experience:

  • Sedation
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Agitation
  • Dry mouth
  • Increased appetite
  • Nervousness
  • Gastro-intestinal discomfort.

 

Syrup:

  • Nausea
  • Gastro-intestinal discomfort
  • Diarrhea, constipation
  • Increased appetite
  • Dry mouth
  • Thickening of mucus.

 

Common drug interaction

Tablets:

No evidence of interactions in studies with diazepam, and cimetidine have been revealed. It is recommended that excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided.

Syrup:

Concomitant use of alcohol and other sedating agents should be avoided. There is no evidence of an interaction between cetirizine and cimetidine, ketoconazole, erythromycin, azithromycin, diazepam, glipizide and pseudoephedrine.
